Naughty Bars
Why the provocative title? Make these
bars, take one bite, and you'll find out. They are full of decadent,
buttery flavor but they have really no redeeming nutritional value.
I am not a calorie counter or worrier about fat, carbs, etc. because
in my opinion, food should be enjoyed, albeit in moderation. So,
make a batch to share with friends and enjoy them.
Ingredients:
2 sticks butter
2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
2 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
2 eggs
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a
9 by 13 inch pan and set aside. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan
over low heat. Meanwhile, measure the brown sugar into a large bowl
and stir in the butter when melted. Add the baking powder, salt, and
vanilla; stir well. Slowly add the flour a bit at a time, stirring
constantly. In a small bowl whisk the eggs, add to the other
ingredients, and mix well. Press the batter into the buttered pan
and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until golden at the edges and the
center is still soft – do not overbake. Remove from the oven, wait
a few minutes, then cut into pieces and serve. This recipe can
easily be cut in half and baked in an 8 by 8 inch pan.
*My husband found this recipe while we
were browsing in a Penzeys Spices store down in Dallas, Texas on a
recent visit to his (our) wonderful Aunt Connie.
